Day 8 - my favorite quote
You'd expect me to come up with something witty and profound for this day, wouldn't you. Quotes are like movies to me - I can never remember them. But of the ones I can remember, this is my favorite:
Semper ubi sub ubi
It's more advice than it is a quote, but very good advice.
My favorite Bible verse is
Always let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love
for I have put me trust in you.
Show me the way I should go
for to you I lift up my soul.

Day 7 - A picture of me and the person with whom I have been the closest for the longest
This was an easy-peasy day.
This is my seester. She is nine years younger than me, but has been my best friend since I was old enough to appreciate her. I love her.

Day 6 - My favorite book
I love books. Just ask the hubs - he has to lift all the boxes of them every time we move. This would be so much easier if my books weren't in storage in Denver and I could go look at my bookshelf and see them. But since they're all packed away in boxes I shall have to put down yet another lame-o answer. I really like kid's books. There are some I could read over and over again. I don't know why. Maybe it lets my mind take a little break or maybe kid's books have really good messages that adult's books miss sometimes.
I could read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory every day for a year. I love it.
I love reading Llama Llama Red Pajama to Sofia. It makes me smile.
The Madeline books make me long to return to Paris.
I've probably read Charlotte's Web and the entirety of the Little House series 20 times a piece.
I adore Christian action/adventure novels. Bet you didn't know there was such a bizarre genre.
I like Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, and some of the other girly classics.
I used to read all things Milan Kundera, but I've outgrown my tortured bohemian stage.
I also really like books like 1984, brave new world, and anthem, but again, they were from another phase of my life.
I like the book of James in the Bible.
See you again tomorrow. Think I'll do some reading now.

Christmas "shopping"
As I continue to Christmas shop without an income, I came across this giveaway. I can think of one little niece who would very much like to have one of these under the tree from her Auntie Stina.

Day 5
Stop asking me my favorites!
Right now my favorite tv show is Fringe. But I always love a good documentary. I was in a documentary on the history channel once - The Doomsday Flu. Perhaps that is what started my love affair with documentaries. Stay tuned for more riveting info about me tomorrow!

Day 2 – your favorite song
This is actually pretty hard for me. I'm not very well in touch with my likes. I think I tend to focus more on my dislikes. Really, I'm just staring at the screen, no idea, listening to children, nephews, daughter all around me. One song that comes to mind is "Goodbye Alice in Wonderland" by Jewel, but I'm sure it's not my favorite, just one that I like that I can think of right now. My mind is also consumed by children songs right now, mostly in french - did you know that Alouette is a hunting song about plucking a skylark? I also love me some praise and worship singing. How's that for a long-winded answer.

How to Christmas shop with no income
I have been thinking a lot recently about how on earth I'm going to be able to wrap shiny packages for loved ones for Christmas since we have no income. It's kind of a drag especially since it's Sofia's first Christmas. I've even thought about just wrapping up toys that she already has. Then I stumbled across this giveaway. If I won this I would be able to wrap up something for all the someones in my life. It would be so much fun and such a blessing in hard times.

Teething Bites!
So our darling, easy-going, delightful daughter has recently turned into a little baby Mr. Hyde. She hasn't really been sleeping well since she turned 4 months old - namely she had been waking up 3-4 times a night, but would go back to sleep immediately upon nursing. Fine. I can deal with that. About 2 weeks ago she upped the ante and started waking 3-5 times, the first being an hour after going to sleep. I thought it would be a good idea to try to rock her back to sleep during these times of waking when I KNOW she's not hungry. WOW! Mistake. Apparently, nursing is the treatment for teething. But I didn't know that until yesterday. I just thought, there's no way I'm going to keep feeding this kid if she's not really hungry. And like any good mother, I worried that soothing her with food would naturally lead to an unhealthy relationship with food later in life. I can be such an idiot. It took me 2 weeks to understand that nursing can be part of teething and can actually help the process. Now, despite the utter sleep deprivation and frustration, when my sweet babe wakes up in the middle of the night, sometimes whimpering, sometimes shrieking, I hold her close , tell her it will be okay, and let that baby nurse until she can sleep again.
She has two bottom teeth now. I thought, "Super, maybe we can get some sleep." Nope, I also learned the dirty secret mamas don't tell you ahead of time. Teething lasts until they have ALL their teeth. She may not sleep until she's 2! So until then, I treasure the groggy, dreamlike nightwakings knowing that they will disappear all to quickly, replaced by first words, first steps, first day at school, first friends, first dates. David put this into perspective yesterday when he said, "Just think. I'll be walking her down the aisle before we know it." Hard to believe. I refuse to blink and I 'll never again wish away another phase. I will, however, nap more!

All I Want For Christmas
I am loving the network of mommy bloggers that I am "getting to know" through finding and entering giveaway. It's about so much more that winning stuff. For me, it's about making connections with other women who are going through or have gone through the mama learning curve. Granted, they don't know me from Eve and they may think I'm a loony toon for thinking so highly of our virtual connection, but I am inspired by reading these mamas' blogs. I hope you are too. Oh and they are hosting a GIANT Christmas giveaway - so check them out NOW!

Rubber Gloves - Check!
So up to this point, cloth diapering the little bug has been a breeze - just as easy as disposable diapers and oh, so much cuter, not to mention affordable, greener, safer, etc. But I've been trying to introduce small amounts of solid foods into her diet because, after all, isn't that what you do when babies turn 6 months old? She loves food! There's no doubt about that. She opens her mouth wide and lunges for the spoon no matter what color food is on it. The kid even ate pureed spinach. Yes, her hippie mama just opens the fridge and looks in for some organic fruit or veggie she can cook, mash, and cram into her kid's mouth!
Today I learned the meaning of the question, "What about all that poop?" As spinach goes in, so it comes out and all over her cutest, softest brand new Fuzzi bunz. So now the question is, "what do I do with all that poop?"I quickly learned the importance of a pair of rubber gloves in the bathroom and I'm considering a second nappy bucket in the bathroom, but foremost, I'm considering the possibility of withholding solid foods until she turns a year old or is potty trained. Okay, maybe not that long, but a year. That's reasonable. And perhaps we could work out an agreement where she lets me know when she's planning on pooping and I can put one of her beater diapers on. You can negotiate with a one-year old, right?
